The U.S. Department of Labor is currently seeking students for our fall public affairs internship program. This is open to high-performing undergraduate juniors and seniors and graduate students in Public Relations, Communication, and/or Journalism programs. The internship will likely begin on September 6 (or September 13) and will run through the first week in December. Though it is unpaid, a transit subsidy is provided for interns who use SEPTA or PATCO. We are conducting phone interviews this week and next, and plan to make final decisions in the next two weeks. One of our recent graduates, Laura Heinrich ('10), sent us an update about her new job at a charter school system in Phoenix, called "Great Hearts." This charter school is actively seeking Villanova Graduate English graduates to fill some upcoming positions. Reading Assessments The Assessment Development Division of Educational Testing Service is seeking freelance writers, graduate students, teachers, and other college graduates who have an appreciation for good writing and a sense of the interests and abilities of high-school students. Successful candidates will work with ETS test development staff in developing lively and appealing materials for assessing reading comprehension skills aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The eight-week program will begin June 16th and end August 8th. Summer employees will work 8-hour days, Monday-Friday, at the ETS campus in Princeton, NJ. Candidates should submit a short (no more than one-page) sample text that they believe would be suitable for testing critical reading skills.
